142" X 91" CSP made in one 70' long piece. The resilience of CSP allows for a high beam strength helping in cross culverts to be installed in one piece, with not joints. This is a big advantage for CSP versus HDPE or PP culverts, particularly in cold weather culverts where freeze thaw effects on joints is a real issue. HDPE and PP have 14 times the thermal expansion of steel. High thermal expansion properties are bad from joints in cross culvert applications.

The City of Bloomington, MN called for an underground detention system to be installed under a green space. The pipe was 144" solid 10-gage Aluminized Steel Pipe with 24" wide corrugated levee bands and 24" wide flat gaskets to provide for a tight-fitting band connection.What makes this large pipe installation fall under the sustainability category, is native coarse sand, meeting ASTM Class II material, was used as backfill. No special backfill was needed to be imported onto the project site. This saved the owner a substantial amount of tax dollars as well as saved several transportation trucks that would have been otherwise needed to haul off existing fill and bring in select fill.

Corrugated Steel Pipe can be manufactured in any pipe diameter because it is not extruded list plastic pipe or cast is set forms like concrete pipe. This allows for the most hydraulically efficient reline pipe for inlet flow culverts. The inlet and outlet of the culvert have new steel end sections as a cost-effective end treatment.
