Project At A Glance, With Momentum
The new corrugated steel plate culvert under Zaruskiego Street links the Port Basin to Przystań Warszawa. As a result, crews can move canoes and small boats between storage and the pier with ease. The route now supports accessibility as well, which means more residents can enjoy the waterfront. This corrugated steel plate culvert also fits the urban setting without heavy construction impacts.
Site Constraints, Smart Choices
The corridor sits near the Warsaw Protected Landscape Area and a Natura 2000 bird zone. Therefore, the team needed a light-footprint approach. A corrugated steel plate culvert installs fast with minimal disruption, yet it delivers long service life. Moreover, it adapts to varied geometry, which was ideal in a tight right-of-way. ViaCon Polska’s submittal aligned these needs with a corrugated steel plate culvert that balanced strength, speed, and sustainability.
Design Snapshot You Can Use

The installed shape is a closed steel plate system sized for low-profile clearance and boat passage. Conversions are below for quick reference. This corrugated steel plate culvert spans about 12.34 feet and rises roughly 8.70 feet. The bottom length measures about 60.7 feet, while the top length is about 30.6 feet. Internally, the team applied an approximately 8-mil protective coating for added durability and clean finishes. Altogether, the geometry supports efficient flow and safe craft movement within the corridor.
From Concept To Community Access
Before the culvert, equipment transfers crossed busy paths and uneven grades. Now, however, the corridor operates as an underpass that separates people from equipment. Consequently, staging is safer and faster, even during peak recreation hours. The corrugated steel plate culvert also streamlines port maintenance access, which reduces downtime. Additionally, the marine-inspired interior finish helps the space feel welcoming to users.

Environmental Stewardship Built In
Because the location threads through a biodiversity corridor, material choice mattered. Steel plate arrives in segments, so crews limited excavation and shortened lane disruptions. Furthermore, the corrugated steel plate culvert can be inspected and renewed over time, which supports a circular, low-waste strategy. In turn, the project helps protect sensitive habitats while improving human access to public waterfronts.
Results The City Can Feel
Today, the port area moves better. Pedestrians and cyclists navigate more confidently. Boats transfer smoothly between storage and the pier. Most importantly, the corrugated steel plate culvert upgrades accessibility for people with limited mobility. Altogether, the improvement strengthens the Port Basin’s role as a recreation hub in central Warsaw. Submitted materials credit ViaCon Polska as the fabricator and Inmel as the contractor.
