A Project Built for Sustainability

Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL) recently completed a unique fish passage culvert installation on Upper Booth Road in Kelowna, working alongside CRE Green Consulting Ltd., Ecora Engineering, and RL Construction. The centerpiece is a steel pipe arch measuring 10 feet 2 inches wide and 6 feet 6 inches tall. This fish passage culvert includes custom baffles that slow water and retain natural substrate. As a result, fish can move through the crossing safely and consistently.
The project highlights how a fish passage culvert can deliver both structural strength and environmental protection. It shows that engineered systems and natural ecosystems can thrive together.
Overcoming On-Site Challenges

Building a pipe arch is never simple. Adding fish baffles made the work even more complex. Each baffle was custom cut to match the shape of the steel arch, so alignment had to be precise. To solve this challenge, the team used an alternative assembly method. This approach allowed the baffles to bolt into place without forcing them by hand.
Throughout construction, AIL project sales representative David Wright visited the site several times. His direct guidance kept the fish passage culvert project on track and ensured it was finished within three weeks.

Staying on Time and on Budget
Strong planning gave the team a clear advantage. AIL held two preconstruction meetings to confirm the assembly plan before the crew broke ground. Because materials arrived on schedule, the contractor could focus on smooth installation. These steps helped the fish passage culvert reach completion both on time and within budget while still meeting ecological goals.
Positive Client Feedback

Client feedback confirmed the success of the project. RL Construction has already returned to AIL for more steel solutions. Their interest shows the strong value of this type of fish passage culvert. With reliable durability, quick installation, and proven environmental benefits, the Upper Booth Road project demonstrates how steel can serve communities and nature at the same time.
